A general partner is
a partner (owner) of a partnership, such as a hedge fund, who is
personally liable for all partnership debts and is permitted to
participate in the management of the partnership. Every limited
partnership must have one general partner.
GICS® sector
Stands for The Global Industry Classification Standard (GICS),
it was developed by Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) and
Standard & Poor’s (S&P). The goal of the GICS classification
system is to enhance the
investment research and asset management process for financial
professionals worldwide. It answers the fiinancial community’s
need for an accurate, complete, and standard industry definition. The
GICS structure consists of 10 sectors, 24 industry groups, 62
industries and 132 sub-industries.
GIPS®
Stands for Global Investment Performance Standards. GIPS
standards are ethical standards to be used by investment managers
in creating performance presentations that ensure fair
representation and full disclosure.
global-macro investment strategy
An strategy in which a fund manager seeks to anticipate broad
trends in the worldwide economy. A global-macro
manager will choose investments from a wide variety of markets, e.g.,
stocks, bonds, currencies, commodities, etc. Many large hedge funds follow global-macro strategies. They
are sometimes called "macro" or "global directional-investment"
funds.
gross return
Gross is the total amount before anything is deducted; the
annual return on an investment, expressed as a percentage of the
total amount invested. Also called rate of return.
